A useful 2026 Seal review starts with a dated specification sheet, not with a ranking. On 19 February 2026, BYD UK published model-year 2026 pricing and hardware for the Seal saloon sold through UK retailers. That note is the cleanest first-party file for the current British car. It tells you how the Design and Excellence trims differ in drive, range, charge window, and on-the-road retail price. It does not tell you what a China-market twin costs, whether a yard in another country has a matching VIN, or whether your destination has approved the car. This article reads that UK sheet the way a dealer or importer should: copy the published lines, keep the market label attached, and leave every unverified line blank until a VIN document fills it.
Open with the market and the date, then the two trims
The Seal is BYD’s electric D-segment saloon on e-Platform 3.0. A review that skips the market will mix leftover 2023 European launch figures with the 2026 UK refresh and call the blend “the Seal.” Do not do that. Write “UK model-year 2026, BYD UK media, 19 February 2026” at the top of the file. Then write the two retail names that note uses: Design and Excellence. Design is the single-motor rear-wheel-drive car. Excellence is the two-motor all-wheel-drive car. Those names are retail names for that market. A China-yard listing that uses another public name is a different object until the plate and the PDF agree.
BYD UK said the 2026 car keeps the same starting on-the-road price as the outgoing UK Seal and was available to order from local UK retailers as of that announcement. That sentence is a UK retail statement. It is not a global stock list. AutoCN does not hold Seal inventory and does not convert a UK order-book sentence into an export promise.
Copy powertrain lines from one sheet only
The February 2026 UK note gives Design 308 bhp and 360 Nm, with 0 to 62 mph in 5.9 seconds. Excellence is given 523 bhp and 670 Nm, with 0 to 62 mph in 3.8 seconds. Both cars are limited to 112 mph. Excellence also carries semi-adaptive suspension with variable frequency dampers and a head-up display that Design does not get in that note. If a seller quotes 230 kW or 390 kW instead of the British horsepower lines, treat those as a different unit system from an older European sheet, not as proof that the VIN is a different car. Convert units only as a cross-check. Never replace the sheet in front of you with a more flattering sheet from another year.
Range is a WLTP pair, not a single Seal number
The same UK note ties an 82.5 kWh Blade lithium-iron-phosphate pack to two WLTP combined figures: 354 miles for Design and 323 miles for Excellence. Those miles are laboratory combined results under WLTP for the cars described in that note. They are not winter motorway results, not CLTC results, and not EPA results. Do not convert 354 miles into a Chinese cycle and present the conversion as equivalent. If a quotation uses kilometres, 354 miles is the UK mile line for Design on that date; an older European launch note used 570 km and 520 km WLTP for the earlier Design and Excellence pair. Similar distance is not proof that every Seal pack in every plant year is identical.
Charge times need the state-of-charge window
BYD UK’s 2026 note states a 150 kW peak DC rate and a 10 to 80 percent recharge in 37 minutes. BYD’s earlier European launch material for the Seal used a 30 to 80 percent window of 26 minutes at 150 kW, with 11 kW three-phase AC as the published onboard figure. Those two charge times answer different questions. A review that prints “26 minutes” next to a 2026 UK price is mixing files. Write the window, the peak rate, and the source date on one line. Charging time still moves with battery temperature, charger voltage, and the state of charge at the plug. The UK note itself is a laboratory-style claim, not a roadside stopwatch.
Practicality and cabin lines that a 2026 review must update
A 2026 review that still prints a 400-litre boot is reviewing last year’s UK car. The February note says the powered tailgate boot grows from 400 litres to 485 litres and adds tethering hooks. The front storage area is stated as 72 litres, 19 litres larger than before. The car remains in a 4.8-metre footprint. Interior notes that matter to a buyer file are narrower: Nappa-trimmed seats, headrests without the stitched BYD logo, an armrest that keeps NFC function without the old NFC badge, a fixed 15.6-inch screen, two 15-watt wireless trays, and a Dynaudio 12-speaker system on Design. Excellence adds the head-up display. New assistance items in that note are a Driver Monitoring System and a Bluetooth phone key. Those are equipment claims for the UK 2026 car. They are not a destination safety rating.
| Line on the file | Design, UK MY2026 note | Excellence, UK MY2026 note | What a reviewer must still verify |
| Drive | Single motor, rear-wheel drive | Two motors, all-wheel drive | Motor labels and drive on the VIN plate |
| Output and 0-62 | 308 bhp, 360 Nm, 5.9 s | 523 bhp, 670 Nm, 3.8 s | Whether the sheet belongs to this chassis |
| WLTP combined | 354 miles | 323 miles | Wheels, climate pack, and cycle printed on the car’s own PDF |
| Pack | 82.5 kWh Blade LFP | 82.5 kWh Blade LFP | Energy line on the VIN energy document |
| DC window in the 2026 note | 150 kW peak; 10-80% in 37 min | Same published pair | Inlet photograph and the charge page for that market |
| UK OTR price in the note | £45,730 | £48,730 | That this is UK retail, not an export quotation |
| UK warranty lines in the note | 6 years / 93,750 miles; battery up to 8 years / 155,350 miles | Same published pair | The booklet that starts with this VIN and this country |
Price belongs in a dated UK retail cell, nowhere else
The only Seal prices this review will print are the two UK on-the-road figures BYD UK published on 19 February 2026: £45,730 for Design and £48,730 for Excellence. Those numbers include whatever the UK on-the-road construction included on that date. They do not include destination duty, inland haulage outside the UK, a parallel-export margin, or a China ex-works quote. A review that pastes those pounds into a Middle East or Africa offer is inventing a price. If you need a number for another market, ask for a dated quotation after the VIN checks pass. AutoCN’s price cluster is a place to keep that discipline visible. It is not a price list for Seal cars.
Who the UK 2026 Seal suits, and the trade-offs the sheet already shows
Design is the longer-range, simpler-drive reading of the same pack. Excellence is the quicker, all-wheel-drive reading with a shorter official combined mile figure and extra chassis hardware. A family buyer who lives on a three-phase home charger and wants the larger official combined figure will read Design first. A buyer who wants the 3.8-second claim and damper hardware will read Excellence first. Neither trim is “the better Seal” in the abstract. The sheet already shows the range-for-drive trade. Tyre size, winter wheels, and roof load will move real range more than a brochure adjective.
The 2026 practicality change matters more than another horsepower sentence for many dealers. Forty-eight extra boot litres and a larger frunk change what a saloon can swallow without a roof box. They do not change homologation, map region, or the 12-volt battery. A review that spends three paragraphs on Ocean design and one sentence on software region has the weights wrong for an importer.
How an importer should use a UK review
If the car in front of you is a UK-delivered MY2026 Seal, the February note is a fair overlay. If the car is a China-market Seal, a Gulf-market Seal, or an earlier European car, the UK note is background. Photograph the plate, the energy label, the inlet, the cluster language, and the service booklet. Ask for the PDF that names this model code. Then compare, line by line, with the UK table above. Where a line disagrees, the VIN wins. Where a line is missing, the deal is not ready. AutoCN’s BYD brand route and reviews can help you keep those photographs in order. They cannot issue type approval and they cannot say a Seal is in stock.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is 354 miles the range I will see in winter?
No. 354 miles is the WLTP combined figure BYD UK published for the 2026 Design car. Cold, speed, load, wheels, and climate settings reduce the result. Keep the laboratory figure and a winter test in separate cells. Do not convert WLTP into another cycle to make the winter gap look smaller.
Why do some pages still say 26 minutes to charge?
That figure appears on older European Seal material as a 30 to 80 percent DC window at 150 kW. The 2026 UK note uses 10 to 80 percent in 37 minutes. Print the window printed on the file you are reading. Do not average the two times.
Can I use the UK pounds as an export price?
No. Those pounds are UK on-the-road retail figures from 19 February 2026. An export quotation is a different contract. If a seller offers “UK price plus shipping,” stop and ask for a landed-cost build after the VIN is identified.
Does the 2026 boot figure apply to every Seal?
It applies to the UK MY2026 car described in that note. Earlier UK cars were described with a 400-litre boot. Other markets may keep different interior mouldings. Measure or read the sheet for the car you are buying.
What should a review refuse to rank?
Refuse “best electric saloon” language, refuse a global reliability crown, and refuse a destination-approval sentence. A review can say which trim fits which use case on a dated sheet. It cannot award a market that has not published a result for that variant.
Write the sheet, then decide if the car is the one you want
The 2026 Seal is readable when you treat it as two UK trims on one dated note: same published pack energy, two drives, two WLTP mile figures, one DC peak, and two UK retail prices. The useful review copies those lines, updates the boot and assistance list, and then stops. Everything else is a VIN job. If you are comparing cars across markets, keep a blank row for each unverified line rather than filling it from memory. AutoCN can sit on that comparison file with you through the contact route. Bring the plate photograph. Do not bring only the word Seal.
