BYD Seal and Tesla Model 3 occupy the same buyer shortlist: five-seat electric sedans that official makers sell in several markets. They are not the same file. Seal public material in Europe describes a Blade LFP pack and, on recent official sheets, rear- or dual-motor layouts with WLTP range. Tesla’s current Model 3 pages publish EPA range and performance by North American trim, and Tesla does not present the car as a Chinese-export commodity. A useful 2026 comparison for dealers and fleet buyers is therefore a checklist: which cycle is printed, which inlet is on the VIN, which software account the car expects, and who will service it after an independent movement across a border. Compare identities, then compare numbers
Write two VIN rows before you open a fan chart. For Seal, confirm whether the quotation is a China-market Seal, an official European Seal, or another export name in the Seal and Sealion family. What official Seal pages allow you to say
BYD’s European retail material for Seal describes an e-Platform 3.0 sedan with Cell-to-Body structure and a cobalt-free Blade Battery. An Irish market product guide dated March 2025, still the clearest complete official table readily published for this comparison, lists an 82.5 kWh Blade pack on the Design rear-wheel-drive and Excellence all-wheel-drive grades. That guide prints 230 kW for the rear-drive car, 5.9 seconds for 0–100 km/h, and 570 km WLTP combined; the dual-motor car is printed at 390 kW, 3.8 seconds, and 520 km WLTP combined, with a 180 km/h electronic limit on both. DC charging is described in that guide as a 30–80 percent session in 26 minutes. A BYD UK Model Year 2026 leaflet exists for Seal and should be read for any UK-bound file; do not assume every cell is unchanged from the 2025 Irish table without opening that leaflet.
China-market Seal cars have also been published with other pack sizes, including a smaller Blade option around 61.4 kWh on some domestic grades. If your quotation is a China-market VIN, demand the Chinese sheet and keep CLTC figures in a CLTC column. Do not paste a 570 km WLTP number onto a domestic car. Motor mix on the dual-motor Seal
BYD describes the rear machine as a permanent-magnet synchronous motor and, on the dual-motor grade, a front induction machine. That is a parts-list fact. It does not make Seal “like Model 3” in software, charging, or service. Ask for both motor codes on an all-wheel-drive quotation. If the sheet only says AWD, you do not yet have a comparable row.
What Tesla’s Model 3 pages allow you to say
Tesla’s Model 3 marketing page, as retrieved for this article, publishes North American EPA estimated range and acceleration by the names Tesla is currently using: a rear-wheel-drive Model 3 at 321 miles EPA and 5.8 seconds 0–60 mph; Model 3 Premium figures that include 346 miles EPA on one published row and 363 miles EPA on another Premium configuration; and Model 3 Performance at 309 miles EPA, 2.9 seconds 0–60 mph, with Tesla also publishing a “more than 500 horsepower” Performance drive-unit claim. Tesla’s owner documentation states that the on-screen distance estimate is based on EPA-rated consumption in the United States and will not match a driver’s own cycle.
Tesla does not make battery kilowatt-hours a prominent public specification on that page. Do not fill the cell with a third-party guess and call it official. If your purchase file needs energy capacity, ask Tesla’s configurator documents for that market or treat the cell as “not published.” Charging hardware is likewise market-specific. North American cars use Tesla’s North American charging connector family, also referred to in industry documents as NACS / SAE J3400. European official cars use the regional CCS family. The comparison that actually changes a purchase
Range marketing is the weakest reason to choose. A 570 km WLTP Seal and a 321 mile EPA Model 3 are not a single league table. Convert nothing. If you need a fleet energy plan, run two labelled scenarios and then measure a local loop after delivery. The stronger differences for an importer are charging access, service access, and software lock-in.
Seal aftersales after an independent export is a Chinese-brand parts problem: drive units, Blade pack modules, and body panels with a stated lead time, plus a warranty that may not travel. Model 3 aftersales outside Tesla’s channel is a different problem: diagnostic access, body-aluminium repair, and whether the car remains on Tesla’s update and charging maps. Neither problem is solved by a brochure efficiency number. Ask each seller the same service questions and write the answers in the same cells.

Cabin, assistance, and what not to invent
Both cars are five-seat sedans with a low roof line. Rear headroom, boot opening, and child-seat anchors belong in a measured inspection, not in a remembered review of a different year. Driver-assistance names look similar on paper and behave differently. Tesla’s supervised driver-assistance packages are licensed features that can be market- and account-specific. BYD’s assistance list on a European Seal is a destination equipment list. Do not claim that either system is legal to use as advertised in a country you have not checked, and do not claim that a grey-import car has the same feature set as the official local car.
Ride and noise depend on wheels and glass. Official Performance and Excellence grades use different tyres from base grades. If the quotation omits the wheel, you do not have a comparable comfort row. Do not invent a lap time, a consumption figure, or a safety-star result for a market that has not tested that VIN. If a destination has published a crash or assistance test for a specific official variant, cite that test and that variant only.
