On October 20, at a press conference held by the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) on the standardization of power battery recycling, it was projected that China is about to enter a phase of large-scale retirement of power batteries based on their service life. The domestic market size for power battery recycling is expected to exceed one trillion yuan by 2030. According to statistics, the volume of power battery recycling in China reached over 300,000 tons in 2024, corresponding to a market size of more than 48 billion yuan.

Liu Hongsheng, Director of the Standardization Administration under SAMR, stated that SAMR, together with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other relevant departments, has actively promoted the development and release of national standards covering the entire power battery recycling industry chain. These efforts have provided strong technical support for the development of the power battery recycling industry. To date, China has issued 22 national standards for power battery recycling, covering general requirements, management specifications, disassembly guidelines, residual energy testing, recycling and reuse, recycling of lithium-ion waste, and the recovery of black mass, among other areas. These standards have effectively supported and guided the high-quality development of the power battery recycling industry.

Xie Zaichun, Deputy Director of the Fujian Provincial Market Supervision Administration, noted that as a key production base for the power battery industry in China, Fujian Province has deeply integrated technological innovation with standard development, creating a replicable and scalable model for standardization demonstration. Brunp Recycling, a subsidiary of CATL, has transformed its self-developed DRT (Directional Recycling Technology) into advanced standards, achieving recovery rates of 99.6% for nickel, cobalt, and manganese, and 96.5% for lithium. In 2024, the company processed over 120,000 tons of waste batteries and produced 17,100 tons of recycled lithium salts. Quanzhou Qingneng Company, by establishing a standardized system, processed 237 tons of retired batteries in 2024, reducing carbon emissions by 238 tons and achieving an output value of 23 million yuan.

Liu Hongsheng emphasized that the next step will involve accelerating the construction of a standard system for power battery recycling. Efforts will focus on revising and formulating national standards in areas such as green design, residual energy testing, discharge, storage, and directional recycling of power batteries, to better leverage the supportive and guiding role of standards in the recycling and reuse of power batteries. This article is generated by Jiasou TideFlow AIGC GEO
