What is the published peak and, if available, the continuous rating? Where is the service split between the motor, the inverter, and the reduction gear? PMSM units can be damaged by overheating the magnets or by inverter faults that send uncontrolled current. They are not immune to water ingress at the connector or to bearing wear. How the motor works with the inverter and regen
The inverter turns battery DC into the AC waveform the motor needs, and it turns the motor into a generator when you lift off. Regenerative braking strength is therefore a software and inverter behaviour as much as a motor behaviour. Two cars with the same motor code can feel different if one market tune blends the friction brakes earlier. That matters for driver training and for brake-pad life, not for a claim that one brand “has better regen.”
When you inspect, record the regen settings available in the menu, whether one-pedal driving is present, and whether the car can hold on a grade without the friction brake. Then ask whether those settings survive a software-region change after export. A China-market map and a destination-market map are not the same product. If the exporter cannot show the menu language and the regen options on the actual VIN, treat the drive feel as unverified.

Aftersales, heat, and what you should not promise
Drive-unit failures after export are expensive because the assembly is heavy, the diagnostic tool may be region-locked, and the part may have a long lead time.
